Supporting Children's Mental Health Through Compassion & Creativity
Gina Colaizzo is a dual-certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than a decade of experience caring for children, adolescents, and their families. Her unique background brings together pediatric medicine, mental health, and a lifelong passion for creativity and the fine arts.
Education & Training
Gina began her academic career at Lafayette College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience with a minor in Art. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Most recently, she completed a post-master's certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing at the University of Miami School of Nursing.
Clinical Experience
Over the course of her career, Gina has cared for children and adolescents in primary care, adolescent medicine, pediatric neurosurgery, and other specialty settings. She completed her psychiatric mental health training to expand her ability to support patients' emotional and behavioral health alongside their physical health.
A Whole-Person Approach to Mental Health
Today, Gina combines her pediatric and psychiatric training to provide compassionate, developmentally informed, and evidence-based mental health care. She is particularly passionate about helping children, adolescents, and families navigate mental health challenges while creating an environment where patients feel heard, understood, and supported.
Creativity Beyond the Clinic
Creativity has always been an important part of Gina's life and professional work. She has authored and illustrated two children's books and has created educational illustrations and materials for a variety of healthcare settings. During her pediatric career, she has also incorporated art into clinical environments, including painting murals to create more welcoming spaces for children.
Life Outside of Work
Outside of her clinical work, Gina spends her free time staying active through running, cycling, swimming, playing tennis, going to the gym and participating in other watersports, while also using art as a way to relax and unwind. She brings the same curiosity, energy, and creativity that inspire her personal life into the care she provides to her patients.
